Great about March 2023 - or whenever!

My godmother gave me an ornament every year for my birthday from birth through around eighteen--many have broken or been lost to the ravages of time, but we still have a few. It was traditional in my youth not to get a tree until my birthday (12/15) at the earliest, but my child has different ideas that have won out, so he and my mom put up a tree the other day.

I am of course still of the opinion that it is not Christmas till it's Christmas, and right now it's still Advent and we're just getting ready, but suppose one could argue that putting up a tree is a form of preparation.

Ah! A purist! Do you also never celebrate birthdays except on the days that the humans are born? (I am of this ilk for birthdays but long ago gave up on Christmas decorations going up only on Christmas day)

Nah, I'm pretty indifferent to the timing of birthday celebrations, though I try to honor my kid's wishes in terms of when he wants his family birthday (friend birthday party has to be on a weekend). I gave up on my own birthday long ago, either the year I was six and no one could come to my party and my dad was dead or when it started always coinciding with finals week--I'm not sure which.

hm yes that would put a damper on the frivolity. Well, it's nice that you keep at least the one birthday on its actual date. Hope your holidays are merry. And bright. And figgy pudding and all that. (and thanks for reading and commenting -- I enjoy these exchanges!)

I enjoy them as well! The exchanges, that is. The last few weeks have been marked by meetings, appointments, and influenza A (everyone's favorite Christmas present).

By the by, did I remember to mention that I linked to you in my favorite work thread for the year (and I believe our most viral thread ever... for library copyright Twitter values of viral)? https://twitter.com/library_futures/status/1592560759229526018?s=20&t=sXSegqyPjTs5FonvnWXy2Q
