Greetings person who has been trying so hard not to get into it but oh my gosh these people, who are they and how did your genetics intermingle with theirs?
I hope everyone is having a great time anticipating Thanksgiving with their families.
(sorry. had to wipe the tears of laughter away, couldn’t see to type)
I’m in Texas to celebrate my mom’s 80th birthday. Go Mom!
(and also my nephew’s young adult birthday. Go nephew!)
So I’m not going to write a lot. If you feel like reading an ode to Cranberry Jelly that I wrote some years ago, you are welcome to follow this link. I’m not dealing with writing stuff - too busy!
But then, you guys might want/need a break from whatever holiday fun you are having or preparing to have, so here’s some short thoughts for you to ponder. As always I welcome your responses.
SHORT STUFF:
Why are they “pet” peeves? Why not “monster” peeves. Or any other kind of peeves? are there peeves that are not pet? Peeves that are just….one-offs?
You know how singers/rock stars are always portrayed as extroverts? My kid was talking about how the current teen introverts are all “into” something: crafting or writing or music…and it occurred to me that before social media, musicians almost had to be extroverts. Music was social: there was either a soloist or an ensemble and there was an audience. Always. If you wanted to “do” any sort of music at all, you kind of had to love to perform (or medicate that fear away). But not anymore: now the most introverted kids are becoming musicians because this is a way they can spend more time alone without being harassed by their parents. (Oh, they’re playing the sax, that’s cool, at least they’re doing something productive locked up in their bedroom.) And social media allows them to post their performances and creations without ever having to “deal with” strangers.
I went to see this show and so should you if you have ever played D&D or wanted to or been on the sidelines of a game wondering what the heck. It’s a terrific show. I haven’t laughed so hard since the last time I gamed! Here’s ticket info. Follow them on Twitter, maybe they’ll come to you.
I leave you with this baffling sign:
Here’s to a holiday without headaches. I am very grateful you exist.
They are "pet peeves" because you take care of them, and they don't leave your side.
Best sign. Enjoy your own holiday without headaches.
