Which witch do we believe?
North winds blow….south winds blow…
Sometimes a topic just falls from the sky:
At a witch store I recently visited (I don’t have to explain myself), there was a book being presented with a “new” calendar of rituals. Setting aside the adjective for what the author purported to predate Wicca, she also told me after the rest of the audience had left that “no one” who truly practices the occult likes the spotlight or reveals their arcane books and magical truths to the public. She said this in response to my question “what was the most exciting book you came across in your research?”
Her answer was that one of the books she’d used for research was a unique tome the owner forbade her from mentioning until their death.
So now she uses this as a teaser.
For her book.
Which you can get at bookstores.
All of this is to say: hypocrisy should be no impediment to making money.
This woman in her 20s felt “called” to publish an indie paperback book filled with supposedly arcane information in it. She called it “sharing.” But, if she truly believes in what she is writing, won’t the spirits be irritated with her?
Perhaps not before she pays her rent.
Writing News
I am still waiting for the final book layout for the print version of THE BOY WHO LOVED TREES. Then I seek blurbs and reviews! Then they supposedly put those on the cover I’ve been waiting so long to see. This industry is the weirdest.
On the good side, though, I just found out A FLASH OF DARKENSS is going to be reissued by the publisher with a new cover. I can’t wait—even though the #bookinthewild photos are among my favorite ever.
Creative inspirations this week: saw a dear friend’s first-ever acting showcase. She took a beginning acting class and I got to see them do their monologues. Their collective intense desire to do well is something we would do well to bottle and spritz over all people embarking on all tasks. I miss seeing people care passionately about minutia. (That said, I had a Board meeting this week and there could be a little LESS minutia in some locations. Haha.)
This long weekend I hope you’re doing something creative and inspiring. I’m in the country attending a three day immersive D&D campaign. This is theater, improv, gaming, and also organization, diplomacy, presentation skills….it’s a marvelous way to reset.

Happy as a clam.
Do you think it is because they look like they are smiling? As usual we have truncated a longer statement and lost its meaning entirely. Turns out the whole phrase is “happy as a clam at high tide” and it means to be far from the annoying things that can bother you.
Let’s hear it for getaways. Take a moment tomorrow and remember those that lost their lives in active service to a noble cause in which they believed. How many people under 30 even know that national holidays have an origin story?
