The More The More
....Frantic you get when the subways don't show up on time
Dear White Rabbits and everyone else who has been late this week:
I have already been to every kind of show this year. Dance, music, theater both Broadway and intimate, and this week, a PEN America party at Poets House with authors galore, a Poetry Salon (a Pen Parentis event that I hosted), a panel discussion about Billionaire Romance Novels at McNally Jackson Seaport (more authors), and the excellent Edward Gorey exhibit at the Museum of the Society of Illustrators. Photos of all of these here.
I also went ice skating and watched someone my own age learn how to do it. That was pretty amazing. It is incredible to me that we continue to be capable of learning, as long as we are alive. Isn’t that remarkable? We are never full to capacity with anything - just filling up. There is always room for more.
I remember reading or hearing when I was a kid that people only use 10% of our brain capacity. I just looked it up and apparently that is a myth—we always use 100% of our brains, all the time. I wanted to reference the MIT page that discusses this (link to it) but I am no longer able to navigate to that page - I don’t know if that is a persistent issue that will affect all .edu websites (which is terrifying) but I’ll have to look into that. In any event, I wasn't able to follow the link to the MIT website.
A little friendly censorship for you:
(Edward Gorey at his finest)
Writing news:
In case you missed it, my book is on Amazon — if you plan to order only one copy of the book, I would love it if you’d hold off and order either the paperback or the hardcover that are forthcoming in October. But if you’re only able to get the electronic version, then please do preorder using this link. I can use as many preorders as possible.
I also spent some time at the Morgan Library this weekend saw the Renoir sketch exhibit and—in a crazy coincidence—my mom found this painting attributed to Norman Rockwell. Is it authentic? or is it me using AI?
I do not know. It is hard to know anything with certainty anymore. Truly.
Oh and I got something on the lines of five rejections in the last week. Fun fun fun.

Random Final Thought:
What inspires you?
Inspiration - an inhale - a taking in of the breath of life. Bringing things closer. A kind of learning by experience.

I am getting ready for something. I am not sure quite what that is, but something. I can feel it.
Have a lovely winter week….it’s snowing!

That’s a real Norman Rockwell painting!
Gorey.
