Season’s Greetings!
or Seasons’ Greetings?
Where does the apostrophe go? Let’s find out. Grammarly will tell us.
(It’s Season’s just like you thought)
So. I have published 150 posts on this blog. That’s pretty ridiculous. Are you happy with it?
This week I didn’t go out as much. Oh I hit a Michelin rated restaurant and its Michelin-rated bar. (The drinks are nice but the view is worth paying rent.)
Oh my City. You’re so pretty. You’re sparkly like someone dropped a Swarovski champagne glass and it shattered into a million pieces. Is that why some people are so afraid of you? You remind them of a broken dream?
Enjoyed the Christmas windows on my annual walk with LadyTeen. The kids and I have done this since they were tiny. Usually, we start at Bloomingdales and used to hit Bendel’s (but it’s gone now) — so now we walk over to Fifth and see the Plaza and Bergdorf’s, the snowflake, Tiffany’s and the other jewelry shops, then St. Pat’s and Atlas and end at Rockefeller Center for the Saks windows. We used to keep going to Lord & Taylors and then Macy’s, but L&T shuttered years ago and Macy’s has had video windows for two years (you have to point your phone at a QR Code to make the windows interesting). Anyway here is my favorite:
I did see the new Miyazaki movie (The Boy and the Heron) and it was also a dream - think of a music box and then overlay a parade of nature imagery that is equally beautiful and mildly threatening; then string these together into a soaring narrative that doesn’t coalesce until you pull back and think of the overarching themes of death and loss. It was lovely to see a film that was actually art. Turns out Miyazaki’s film was loosely inspired by a 1937 novel called How Do You Live? which sounds pretty great. Always great to see good work by an 82 year old.
Writing news:
It was basically a Pen Parentis week. The Salon featured me reading from Book & Baby, a guidebook I wrote to help writers who have kids (of any age) get back on track with their writing. You can get the book here. (It makes a great gift!) Later in the week I had a Pen Parentis Board Meeting - busy times! The Salons recording will be available later, we had some tech difficulties with the streaming capabilities of one of the writers so the editing process is a little more involved than usual.
Random Final Thought:
Happy holidays everyone!
That looks like Tucker Carlson in the bookstore. Probably buying many copies of his own book.
Wishing you a healthy and creative New Year!
