Adios, amigos!
When you are reading this it will be a different time and possibly even a different day in Croatia for me. Presumably today I will be leading a 90 minute Creativity Spa. (I do this) and hopefully reading texts from my kids!
Before I left, I went to see Audra McDonald in Gypsy - it was the first time I have ever watched that show and identified with Mama Rose. That was new. (The production is terrific; she is fantastic. What a voice.) And I also saw a screening of The Warriors with a talkback. This movie about the gangs of New York (like the mimes and the zombie ballplayers) are as real and scary as pizza rat. The film in all its gritty beauty was made in 1979 —and has one of the first all-electonic soundtracks (remember Tangerine Dream? Like that) The film reminds us that camp and dead-serious were indistinguishable back then.
As they rather are now as well.
In other local news, I have already had six good ideas this morning and I wasn’t even hungry for breakfast (thanks jet lag).
Writing
As previously mentioned, two things. 1) a letter I wrote is going to be turned into a short play (2-10 minutes long) and performed fully staged on June 28 in Manhattan by YOURFAITHFULREADER.com 2) I’m in Eastern Europe until June 9th. It is….extraordinary.
Also as a reminder, I’ll be writing about my travels in great detail at the paid level of this newsletter. They will be here, available for you to read at your leisure (I won’t email them because I don’t want to clutter your inbox). I will still send out the usual weekly updates on Sundays (though time zone will be wonky for four weeks) and of course post COPIOUS photos on Facebook.com/mmdevoe and also on Instagram.com/femmekafka
You can also see me interview at least two fantastic authors (Annie Wenstrup who just won the Whiting Award and the prolific and terrific Susanna Sonnenberg) on May 13th at 7pm your time. Note that this is 1:30am in Croatia. I should be hilarious to watch. I’ll buy you coffee if you see me yawn.
Random Final Thought:
Why is Executive Function called this? Every executive that I know has an administrative assistant to do ALL the things they have no executive functions to do - none of them can fill out a form, be on time, remember their appointments or find their keys.
Oooh, tell me more about Creativity Spas, or direct me to that information, please!
Congrats! You are a mother not only of two children but, also, of many writers!
