Greetings unruly souls,
Hope you had a lovely Halloween. Mine was glamorous and lively and full of costumed dinners, theater, and (masked) balls. We spent the actual night of Halloween at the Poetry Brothel’s Masquerade. It benefitted The Poetry Society as well as a worthy nonprofit. The Poetry Brothel is highly recommended for anyone who finds fine words enticing and who loves a little double entendre with their single malt.

I’m buried in work this week - trying to get the last final draft of my novel read to send to agents (that is NOT an accident—I’ve already labeled three drafts “final” on my desktop) — Pen Parentis is looking for Board members (is this you? want to join us? drop me a line!) — and I am of course in the midst of the monthly Literary Salons that I host. (next one November 9th, come along—it’s online and you won’t be seen, just chat questions and only if you want to). Plus it’s end-of-year, so I have to think about fundraising and all that stuff. (People try to put the “fun” in fundraising, but no one ever notices the “raisin” in fundraising…)
Anyway -
Nothing new in the personal-publishing world. Of course you can always use this time to see the old stuff. My book. My villanelle. The latest short story that was anthologized. My collection of weird random essays on Medium. Catch up!!
but THEN — last night — this article went live on Splash-Chicago!
It would be doing me a GREAT favor if you could scroll to the bottom of it (you can read it if you want, of course!) and post it on some social media that you use—just say “in case you are a writer with kids or know any who might want community!” — or whatever you like. But I would love for more people to see it - the article explains what Pen Parentis does and talks about our current programs (and how they are now accessible nationally!) it was written by Marie Holmes & I’m so grateful!
PARTING MOMENT:
Enjoy this delicious song. My brother sent it to me—made me laugh out loud.
Art is “real” work, my friends. Keep up the good work.
